I've long been sold on Derby blades, and this is the best buy for these classic blades. On top of that, the Arko freebie was great: Arko is the best friend of the wetshaver who's on a budget. So this review is a twofer: (1) One for the quality and value of this vendor's Derby double-edge (DE) blades, and (2) one for the included freebie of an Arko shave stick. Get a usable badger-hair brush for shaving, and with this great deal on Derby blades and this Arko shaving soap intro, you'll love shaving with a DE razor and a good shaving lubricant like Arko. Then you'll graduate to Tabac shaving soap. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I've used Merkur's (sp) and find the Derby Extra's to be comparable.
On price, shipped to my door (PA), the price is lower than Personna's purchased from Wal-Mart! (that's $.14USD delivered if I remember correctly). I am going to place a second order for Derby's, I feel the value and quality is there and justified (Oh, forget about the Personna DE blades sold at Wal-mart, slipshod quality.) P.S. You must be careful in using your Derby's, but that goes for all DE blades. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By MDMD "MDMD" (Canfield Ohio) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Having priced the Derby blades at multiple vendors, this is a great deal for the Derby blades alone. What makes this even better is the stick of Arko that is thrown in to sweeten the pot. I probably never would have tried this soap if it hadn't been thrown in with the blades. I would have missed out on one of the true values in wet-shaving. This soap provides a slick, dense lather that just explodes off of the brush. It is the equal of soaps costing 5-10 times as much. As to the blades, they are one of my favorites. If cost was no object, I would stick to Iridiums or Feathers, but the Derbys are a top quality blade at a third of the price. There is a lot of debate as to the quality of Derby blades over the past six months or so. The cardboard insert on the blades has changed. While some feel that the quality of the blades has changed as well, many posters as web sites devoted to shaving notice no difference in the blades since the packaging change. I, personally, continue to find the...Read more |
