Derby Extra Double Edge Razor Blades - 25 Ct

I recently bought a Merkur HD Classic based on stellar reviews, and bought a pack of these Derby's because I sensed that on many shaving message boards they seemed to be the most positively mentioned blade. The razor came with a Merkur Platinum blade which is a better seller on Amazon so I decided to try that out first. Although I was a beginner at double edged razor shaving, I was certainly not a beginner at wet shaving and expected decent, not great results on my first shave. I was disappointed to see that the shave wasn't even decent, it was very poor compared to be Mach 3 shaves and I had a five'o'clock shadow no matter how many passes I took. I eventually took so many passes that I was bleeding like crazy, my skin was swiss cheese, but still the stubble hadn't come off. I had 3 more shaves with this razor. I used Feathers mostly (with Merkurs here and there) for a couple of years before trying the Derby Extras after my barber recommended them. For the price and quality I can't see myself switching to anything else now.

Sharpness: They're quite sharp, noticeably sharper than Merkur but not as much as the Feather. They aren't harsh like Feathers though and last twice as long. I get 5-6 great shaves out of this razor. The Feather gave me a couple of excellent, sharp shaves but it became harsh after that.

Packaging: They come in 5s instead of 10s like the other two razors mentioned, and each razor is individually wrapped in wax paper. They do have a used blades compartment which is nice.

Quality: Second to none, you can feel the difference after a couple of shaves when it stays smooth and doesn't pull at your hair like the Feather does. I would say it's as good as the Merkur, just a lot cheaper.

This is good for people with sensitive skin or those that don't have tough beards. My facial hair is very tough, especially around the chin, and this thing tugged and pulled a bit. My facial hair is the type that has to be shave everyday since it grows very quickly. This blade will be very good for people who don't have tough beards. For them, it is mild and so it will give you a close effective shave without much irritation and less chance of cuts or degree of the cut if you make mistakes in your techniques. Good blade to start with if you are new.
