I own several double-edge razors. The Edwin Jagger DE89BL is the most recent addition to my shaving arsenal. I'd honestly have to say it is my favorite razor.
First of all, as others have mentioned, it has the most beautiful chrome finish I've ever seen on a razor. It just exudes quality. Even the underside of the head has the same, flawlessly chromed surface as the rest of the razor. Although the handle is also chromed and smooth, it does not really slip in the hand as you might expect. That is so because of a nice little double-lip near the top of the handle that let your fingers just naturally fall into as you hold the razor.
There is a "just-right" heft and balance to the razor as well. It's just a tad lighter than the Parker 91R Parker 91R Super Heavyweight Double Edge Safety Razor and 10...Read more

I've spent the last six months learning how to make shaving less of a chore. My first step was using a high quality shaving cream, a shaving brush, and a good moisturizer. While researching these items, I read more and more about the advantages of DE (Double Edge) safety razors.
I decided to buy one and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I almost went with the German made Merkur Heavy Duty (34c) razor, which seems to be the most commonly recommended DE for a new safety-razor-shaver. I'm glad I continued to investigate razors (the Badger and Blade internet forum is a fantastic resource) because the English made Edwin Jagger De89 is considered, by many, to be superior to the Merkur.
First of all, its appearance; it may be the brightest, shiniest thing I own. It's chroming is deep, flawless, and bright. The chroming method used is the same used by Rolls Royce for its chrome accents. The Edwin Jagger De89 comes with either a vertically lined handle, or a smooth...Read more

This is my first D/E safety razor. I've been using it for about 2 months now and really like it. At first I was concerned that the handle was to short (measure 3 3/8" from under the head) but I've gotten used to it. There are also no engraved or raised lines on the handle for grip but it holds firm unless you're covered in soap. I've read that it was designed after the Merkur HD and the head is made by Muhle. This feels balanced and comfortable in the hand and paired with the Derby blades gives a nice shave. I've since switched to AStra Superior platinum blades and find them to be similar in comfort but then again my technique improves with every shave. I noted from a Parker butterfly type safety razor review, that there was a concern with the blade not sitting even in the head, thereby allowing one side to have more blade showing than the other. That s not the case with this head. The blade and bar are even and dead nuts parallel on both sides. I'm fully satisfied with this razor and...Read more
