(Health and Beauty) Replaced the factory battery in my nearly 10 year old Norelco 6885XL that just wouldn't hold a charge anymore. It was a great shaver and I hated to replace it, so I figured I'd try to repair it. With this battery pack and a set of replacement heads, it's like a brand new shaver!
Yes, there is some shaver disassembly and desoldering/soldering involved. In my 6885XL, there were some small plastic retaining pieces that you have to carefully remove and replace. As far as the soldering, it wasn't a big deal for me as I solder regularly, but for those inexperienced or less equipped for soldering (a desolder pump or wick is a must to do the job easily), I see how it might be awkward or challenging. If your shaver is like mine, you need to desolder and unbend the tab ends from the *bottom* of the circuit board, then just pull the tabs completely out with the old battery. Replace with the new battery and insert tabs (check polarity!) into holes, bend them over, and solder...Read more 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I cut the + and - tabs as close to the old batteries as possible which is easier and safer than unsoldering the old connection, too much heat on the old tabs could damage components on the circuit board they go to. I tinned the new tabs with solder. Get the new tabs against the old and apply a bit of heat which should melt the tinning and secure the connection. Plug in the charger to see if you have a display indicating a good connection before assembly. Take your time you'll only have to do it every five years or more. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By SF Bay Area Consumer (East Bay) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Electric shaver battery BT-2AA. (Health and Beauty) The shaver design is somewhat over complicated I thought. One has to be very careful. However there are a couple of good sites that give you the instructions on how to do it. I bought these batteries, replacing the old ones. It was a bit tricky. You need to be really good with the soldering iron. But it worked out and I am happy I did it. I just hope I won't have to bother again for another few years. |
