I was a little hesitant to buy this since there was only one brief review on amazon, but I did some checking on the FX690, and while it was $59.95 here, ever other site had the black one and sold them for over $100. I also found some nice reviews on a hair professionals' website, so I ordered this kit. This supplier must get a great price on the blue model, because the retail price listed in the enclosed flier is 3x what they are selling them for.
I've had a Wahl magnetic clipper in the past, and a rechargeable Conair clipper. Both of them were magnetic motor clippers. The Wahl was around $20, I think at Walmart, might have been K-mart, the other was around $25 and lists on Amazon for $28 plus shipping. Both were ok clippers. Very buzzy sounding, and not very strong, but they cut fine so long as you didn't go to fast.
These Forfex clippers are a completely different animal. They come with two blades that you can snap on and off very securely. It also has...Read more

THESE ARE PROFESSIONAL QUALITY CLIPPERS!
1) They come in a strong aluminum case that keeps all your gear organized.
2) The clippers are heavy duty...but heavy. They have a rotary moter that should last for years in a comercial setting or almost forever for home use. They do not vibrate. They are smooth. They are heavy.
3) Comes with 2 blades and 4 combs. Blades are ceramic and sharper and last longer than steel. They use the same blades as the Oster 76. Blades are available everwhere.
4) Comes with cleaning bursh, grease and oil. After a few hours of use, you unscrew the nameplate (2 screws) and put a dot of grease on the motor. Oil blades after ever use and oil motor when needed. I't not hard.
5) Cord is long enough to be useful.
6) Clippers are blue. If they were black, they would be much more expensive. Blue doesn't appear to be popular. Personally I don't care what color they are as long as they work well.

I've been a professional barber for over 25 years and have used the Oster 76's the whole time. They aren't being made with the same kind of quality they used to be so I'm on my 4th one and this last one wore out really fast. I was hoping to find something at least as good and it seemed like the Forfex FX690cb would fit the bill at a much cheaper price. The thing I like about it is it cuts VERY fast and clean. The motor seems to be more high powered than the 76's.
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the motor is also very loud and high pitched and not something I could have screaming in my ears all day. I do pretty much just old-school type barbering so I have clippers in my hand for at least half the haircut. The ceramic blades may also have something to do with how clean the cut is. I would like to try more of the ceramic blades but I'm not sure if you can have them sharpened or not. The detachable blades are interchangeable with the 76's so I could use all my...Read more
