This is a badger hair brush of best badger black quality. This brush has an unconventional, yet attractive and very comfortable handle. The hair on mine is very soft, but it has yet to shed a single hair after a year of use, with very little spreading or deformation. It lathers quickly and thoroughly, and exfoliates without irritation even on my middle aged and hyper-exposed-to-sunlight face. Muhle-Pinsel has a good reputation for making quality shaving equipment, and this shaving brush is no exception. This is a good brush that will last you a decade or more, it is certainly worth the thirty dollars they are charging. I would buy it again for forty dollars. This brush is also worth protecting with a Nickel Shaving Brush Holder, which will make your brush last much longer.
