I live near Baton Rouge, LA, I'm 47 and I have been shaving with Norelco Electric Razors for years. All the men in my family from Great Grandpas, Grandpas and my Dad have shaved with Norelco Electric Razors. My first Norelco was a handmedown from my Grandpa. I have a heavy dark beard and I usually have to shave a couple of times a day if I want a clean shaven appearance. I'm a Minister and I always wanna look good especially in the pulpit. I collect Norelco Electric Razors. In my collection I have: Norelco Micro Acton, Reflex Action, Spectra 8894XL, Spectra 8845XL, 2 Smart Touch XLs the one with the LCD and the model just below it, the blue one, 8160XLCC, and the Arcitec 1050XLCC. I guess, I'm always looking for ways to get a better shave without the mess of blades and shaving cream and without the nicks and cuts of a blade. Over the years, I have had these razors go out after only a few weeks or months of use, but Norelco is always quick to replace the...Read more 3 of 5 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Norelco Shaver Comfortably Close I really researched and studied on which mid price ranged shaver to get, and decided on this one. I had been using a 5885 for many years (10), and the battery finally pooped out and I looked and found this one. First let me say that quality and workmanship has gone down the tubes, because this item is cheap, the motor is weaker that my ten year old unit, and it does not cut as well as some may say! You literally have to go over the same spots multiple times to get a close shave. My old razor used the same blades as this one, and shaved super close! This shaver is a victim of cheap materials and a weak motor. If the motor in the shaver is weak, then the blades are NOT going to work as they should, and this was proven in this shaver! I actually went and tried a friends XL style, and same result, weak motor! If you shave everyday and have the patience to go over the same spots a few times, while making your skin feel like raw meat, then go for it, if not, get a razor with a strong motor,...Read more 3 of 6 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Norelco Shaver Comfortably Close I used this to replace the last of a long line of Norelco & Braun shavers. I have alternated between these brands for decades. This one shaves fine, as expected, though it is more irritating to my skin than my previous Norelco, which just died.
However, one thing I didn't see mentioned in the product description or reviews that would have influenced my decision. Maybe it is the consequence of some American safety standards? The last few shavers I bought in Europe. But for 30 years of shaving with Norelco & Braun shavers, they always shared a common power cord. I don't always leave the shaver in one place, sometimes I misplace a power cord, I always have a bunch of spares by now. However, with this shaver, the charger/adapter is in the power cord, not the razor, so no other powercords will fit. If I forget the charger at a hotel while on the road, I'm pretty well screwed. That alone is sufficient for me to give a low rating to a shaver I would use while...Read more |
