I finally had had it with Gillette. $18 for 8 Mach 3 blades and I figured there's gotta be some way to make these blades last longer to save money. So I took a chance and bought this blade sharpener. Well it certainly does the job. When my blade gets dull, I cover the sharpener with a little foam (as per the instructions) then glide the blade on it four times and voila I'm back to about 80% as sharp as when I first used the blade. I've been using it for 4 weeks now and haven't had to change a blade - normally I get 2 weeks usage MAX out of a single blade. This thing will easily pay for itself in couple of months so a good money saver.

Purchased Razorpit from the grooming lounge in Dec 2010... price @that time was $20. Here are the bottom line #s supplied by my husband, a HS math/science teacher. He has quantified the actual savings a man can realize w/ this product.(Constants for this experiment: he shaves 3x/week,infrequently on weekends; he cleans razor as per instructions right after using; he uses Gillette Fusion Proglide blades $30/8 cartridges
BEFORE RAZORPIT.... $30/8cartridges=$3.75/cartridge. 6shaves (3shavesx2weeks). 8 cartridges x 2weeks longevity=16 weeks for 1pkg of 8blades. 52weeks/16 weeks longevity =3.25packages of blades purchased per yr. 3.25 packages of blades/yr x $30/pkg =$97.50 annual cost for Gillette Fusion Proglide blades.
AFTER RAZORPIT.... same calculation as above. 26 shaves(3shavesx 8.6 weeks) Jan27 2011 -March 282011). 54 shaves (3shaves x 18 weeks) March 29-July 24 2011. Beginning July 31 only 3rd of 8 cartridges will have been used. With 25 weeks left...Read more

I buy the more expensive disposable cartridges, so making them last longer sounded great, and so far this product does seem to make the cartridges last longer. They recommend that you use shaving cream and water on the product, but i just use water, and it works great. The price could be cheaper, it really is just a smooth piece of rubber, but it should pay for itself quickly.
UPDATE:
I started using the old school safety razors (cheaper, with a closer shave), and I can't say I seem to notice the same effect, as far as making them last longer. Maybe I'll try the 'tile' trick mentioned in the comment.
