Schick Hydro 5 Power Select Razor

Everyone's hyping up the Hydro 5 like it was created by god and sent down to earth for man to have the best shave ever. Well, i've come to give you a more honest non-hyped review.

I had been using the Gillette Fusion Power for 2 years until the Hydro 5. I considered that the best shaver I had ever used (previously using electric shavers and disposable ones). I bought the Shick Hydro 5 (NON POWER VERSION) a month ago, not knowing there was a power version. The powerless version was a great shave, but I have to say honestly that it shaved better about a week into use than at the very beginning. Maybe it was because my face was adjusting to a new razor. For the past 3 weeks, I had been shaving with the Hydro 5 and started getting better at it.

Now with the new Hydro 5 Power, I can give a true opinion against the GIllete Fusion power. The blade is obviously the same as the powerless version so no different there. The upsides of having the power version is a MUCH...Read more

I have used the Gillette Proglide since it came out, and the Mach3 before that. Like others I have become frustrated at the sky-high prices for blade refills that Gillette charges. When I saw Schick had finally come out with a power five-blade razor I decided to give it a try.

Firstly, you can't judge a razor until after a few weeks. Any new razor will cut well and it also takes a while for your beard to be trained to the new razor. In almost every way the Schick bests the Gillette. The shave is close and smooth, without the tugging after a couple of weeks. The lubrication strips lasts about 10x longer than the Gillette as well - my experience is that little strip wears out long before the blades do (yet another ploy by Gillette to get users to go through blades sooner). The power offers three levels to select from. My face feels great even after the razor has been used for a couple of weeks. This razor is simply the very best that I have ever used. I have used virtually all of them. Smooth as silk. I just threw away my Gillette Proglide. I received the non power Hydro free from Schick, tried it and I am now a believer. The power handle makes it even smoother. The only problem is, it does not come with one of those plastic storage cases like the other Schicks and Gillettes.
